The steps of a move in Brussels with a furniture lift: the practical guide

Moving in Brussels takes some organisation: narrow streets, high floors, difficult parking. With a furniture lift, your furniture goes straight through the façade. Here are the steps to make everything go smoothly.

1. Book early

Ideally one to two weeks ahead, especially at the end of the month and in summer. Describe your situation: addresses, floors, preferred date and a list of bulky items. You will receive a free, no-obligation written quote. The booking is only confirmed once you agree in writing.

2. Apply for the parking permit

The lift is set up on the public road in front of the façade. In most Brussels municipalities, you need to apply for a parking permit (and often no-parking signs) from the relevant municipal department. Do it as early as possible: processing times vary from one municipality to another. Plan space for the lift and, if needed, for the truck.

3. Check access

Measure the window, balcony or terrace your furniture will pass through, and compare with your largest pieces. Tell us about any obstacle: cables, trees, awnings, a sloping street. We check feasibility before the job.

4. Prepare your furniture

  • Dismantle what you can (beds, wardrobes, tables).
  • Use sturdy boxes that aren’t too heavy.
  • Protect fragile items with blankets.
  • Empty and defrost the fridge the day before.

5. The big day

The operator sets up the lift, marks off the area and handles the operation. Plan for people to place items on the platform and collect them. If you need extra movers or a truck, Ôlift.be organises them with its partners. The lift is charged by the hour: good preparation saves time and money.

6. After the move

Report any damage to us in writing within 72 hours of the job, with photos if possible. And if you were happy, a Google review helps us a lot.
