Parking permit for a furniture lift in Brussels: how does it work?

To set up a furniture lift in front of your building, you almost always need to reserve a space on the public road. In Brussels, this is done through the municipality. Here is what you need to know.

Why a permit?

The lift extends from the street in front of the façade. It needs a clear space, sometimes along with a truck. Without a reservation, you risk finding cars parked in the planned spot, which delays or prevents the job.

Where to apply?

You apply to the municipality where the move takes place (at departure and, if needed, at arrival). Depending on the municipality, the relevant department may be mobility, roads, police or a parking reservation service; many municipalities offer an online form. Check directly on your municipality’s website.

When to apply?

As early as possible. Processing times vary between municipalities and can range from a few days to several weeks. No-parking signs usually have to be put up in advance.

What information to prepare?

  • the exact address and date of the job;
  • the length of space needed (lift and, where applicable, truck);
  • how long the space will be occupied;
  • your contact details.
