One contact for your move in Brussels

Ôlift.be provides the lift and its operator. If you also need a truck or movers, Ôlift.be organises the move with the best service providers. You keep a single contact, from preparation to the last piece of furniture.

Why a lift is almost essential in Brussels

  • Townhouses and typical Brussels houses: high ceilings, narrow winding stairs, old banisters. A 3rd floor there is often as high as a 4th or 5th in a recent building.
  • Apartment blocks and towers: elevators too small for a sofa or wardrobe, or banned for moves by the co-ownership rules.
  • Narrow streets, one-way systems, trams and cycle lanes: a well-placed lift occupies the street for less time than carrying via the stairs.
  • Building sites and renovations: window frames, glazing, roofing, solar panels and rubble go via the façade.

Reserving the street in Brussels: the complete guide

Setting up a lift or parking a truck on the public road requires a permit for the temporary occupation of the public road. The customer applies for it (see our terms and conditions). A chair, pallet or crate on a parking space has no legal value.

Step 1: is your street municipal or regional?

Major roads (boulevards, main avenues) are managed by the Region through Brussels Mobility; other streets by the municipality. Check your address on the Brussels Mobility regional roads map.

Step 2: which office?

Brussels has no single office. Depending on the municipality and the street, you apply:

2. OSIRIS, then the municipalityRequest on OSIRIS, then signs rented from the municipalityCity of Brussels

Step 3: what length and how far in advance?

  • Length: at least 10 m for the lift (7 m on one side of the window, 2 m on the other), plus the length of the truck if it also parks there.
  • Notice: several working days in advance at least; the signs must be put up in time to be valid.
  • Emergency access: if the occupation extends onto the road, a free passage must remain for emergency services (at least 3 m for an occupation shorter than 20 m). Source: be.brussels – Moving and the public road (in French).

How much does the permit cost?

Each municipality sets its own rates. For example, the City of Brussels states for 2026 an administration fee of €60 (non-coordinated works) and an occupation tax of €2.20 per m² per day, with a minimum of €40 (source: bruxelles.be, in French). These amounts come on top of the lift price and are paid to the authorities.
